Update on our departed dog

“Our little dog, sometimes known as Sophie, has departed her body and is now roaming free. She always like to take a walk, and did not always wait for her humans to accompany her. This afternoon she made the ultimate leap, leaving her mortal remains behind to roam free. She was a very good dog, and very much loved.”– K writing of Little Dog’s death on Tues. Jan. 31

“We made an appointment on Saturday to euthanize her but the vets weren’t available for a visit until Tuesday. We had four days with a deadline hanging which was a very strange and uncomfortable feeling. I slept each night relishing the sound of her breath beside me. (I even grew to like her foul smell; as her kidneys failed she began to stink really bad.) On Tuesday morning she lay on my chest on the recliner for an hour or two for a sweet moment, then I placed her on the couch wrapped in blankets to sleep peacefully until the appointment at three. Then twenty minutes before the appointment she died on her own. Secretly, I’m proud of her for avoiding the appointment and dying on her own terms.”—Nathaniel on the same event.

Sweet neighbor
It doesn’t really look like her, but it’s so darned cute anyway.
